Just Say “No”: Drugs Land Round Rock Couple in Jail

Several days before the Christmas holiday began, Kenneth Black and his girlfriend Michelle Bigham were brazen enough to steal gym equipment and personal property from a Gold’s Gym in Round Rock, TX. The young couple intended to sell the stolen items for cash to buy heroin, an illegal drug.

Both individuals admitted to police officers that they were battling heroin addiction for the past three years, and had robbed the Gold’s Gym at 2400 South Interstate 35 over twenty times from 2011 to 2014. [3]

21-year old Bigham was charged with burglary and possession of a controlled substance, while 22-year old Black was charged with burglary and theft. Both individuals were held in the Williamson County Jail for crimes committed dating back at least three years prior to the Round Rock thefts, with bail set at $15,000 for Bigham and $45,000 for Black.

Earlier this year, Time.com reported:

“Heroin use has been rising since 2007, growing from 373,000 yearly users to 669,000 in 2012, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). And the geography of the drug’s users has also expanded. Once considered a largely urban problem, law enforcement and public health officials are seeing an uptick in suburban and rural users.” [4]

Remember that if you’re presented with an offer to do drugs, just say “No.” It’s easier to resist drugs than to ruin your life because of them.
